Social media & new technologies

Social networking sites allow people to share information with each other and let organisations, such as Belfast Zoo, send out key messages to people who choose to receive our updates.

By following us on Facebook and Twitter, you can find out about our latest events, news and arrivals. You can also contact us and send us any questions you have about the zoo, or leave feedback about your experience.

There are also lots of chances to get involved - for example, our Facebook page has photo galleries and discussion boards to use, as well as an events calendar with details of upcoming events at the zoo.

Using our social media

Acceptable content

This statement discloses the types of content that we will remove from our social media channels and the grounds for which we will ban a user from accessing them. Users should also make themselves aware of each site's own terms and conditions. We reserve the right to remove comments, without notification, including those which:

• bully, harass or intimidate any individual or organisation
• are unlawful, libellous, defamatory, abusive or threatening
• are harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented or racially offensive
• infringe or violate someone else's rights
• violate the law
• discuss ongoing legal proceedings
• are spam
• advertise products or services
• are irrelevant
• are disruptive
• are repetitive.

We will also remove or ban any user who:

• continues to post comments such as those listed above
• uses offensive images as their profile picture, for example, sexually explicit images
• has an offensive user name.

These lists are not exhaustive and will be updated as necessary.

Moderation

Our social media accounts are not monitored 24/7 (including evenings, weekends and public holidays).

Also, as our Facebook page is a business page rather than a personal page, we do not receive alerts when users post to certain areas of our account.
