Throughout December, Belfast Zoological Gardens teamed up with local charity, Cash for Kids. Volunteers from Cash for Kids joined forces with the zoo’s volunteer group, ‘the Friends of the Zoo’ to help visitors create some fun and festive crafts and with the generous help of the zoo’s visitors, almost £700 was raised!

Zoo Manager, Mark Challis, was delighted with the partnership “As one of the leading family visitor attractions in Northern Ireland, we were delighted to join forces with Downtown Radio and Cool FM’s Cash for Kids over the holiday period! We would like to thank the Cash for Kids volunteers who donated their time and we would also like to thank the zoo visitors who generously donated and helped us to make a difference to the lives of children throughout Northern Ireland.”

Downtown Radio and Cool FM’s Cash for Kids is a charity which aims to raise money for the thousands of disadvantaged children in Northern Ireland who rely on charitable support. Funds are distributed to provide relief from illness, disability or disadvantage among children. The charity assists in promoting the social, physical and mental wellbeing of children and young people throughout Northern Ireland, with a focus on improving quality of life as well as encouraging personal development and aspirational fulfilment.

Darren Fowler, Cash For Kids Charity Manager, said “We are continually overwhelmed by the generosity demonstrated by the people of Northern Ireland and we were delighted with the fundraising from our partnership with Belfast Zoo over Christmas! With the support of local businesses, such as Belfast Zoo, community groups, individuals and schools, our Christmas campaign 2011 was able to provide Christmas presents for over 1800 children who would otherwise have woken up with nothing on Christmas morning.”
