Belfast Zoo has been a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) since 2000.

We participate in European breeding programmes and work with other European zoos on annual conservation campaigns run by EAZA.

Last year, 2009, we concentrated on helping European carnivores.

The theme of the campaign was 'Living Together' and the total raised was £9,711.57.

Previous EAZA campaigns have covered the following topics:

  • African bushmeat trade
  • Brazilian rainforests
  • tiger protection
  • shellshock tortoise and turtle protection
  • rhino conservation
  • Madagascar
  • amphibian conservation.

The projects are run by EAZA member zoos throughout Europe.

They reach millions of zoo visitors and have raised around £2.5 million to help endangered animals.
