Belfast Zoo 75th birthday logo

Belfast Zoo opened on 28 March 1934 and featured a ‘representative zoological gardens’ on either side of the Bellevue Steps.

It took 150 men to build the 12 acre site and the project cost Belfast Corporation (now Belfast City Council) £10,000.

A total of 287,307 people visited the zoo in its first year.

In 2009, we celebrated our 75th birthday with a series of special events.
