Belfast Zoo would like to thank Jollyes, Glengormley, who now sponsor our blue-crowned laughing thrush.

Blue-crowned laughing thrush are one of the rarest species kept in the zoo. They are found in only four or five separate population groups in the Jiangxi province of China. It is estimated that there are fewer than 200 blue-crowned laughing thrush left in the wild and numbers are decreasing.

Blue-crowned laughing thrush are managed under a European studbook (ESB) and there are currently around 70 birds living in zoos worldwide!

Jonathan Bingham, Manager of Jolleys Glengormley, said “We are delighted that we can support Belfast Zoo and also contribute to the care of this critically endangered species.”

The blue crowned laughing thrush share their enclosure at the zoo with the Bali starling. Bali starling are now extinct in the wild!
