We are taking part in Lord Mayor’s Day

On 28 April 2018, Belfast’s Lord Mayor, Nuala McAllister, will host a free family-fun day to celebrate her year in office and our amazing city.

The Lord Mayor’s theme for the year is Global Belfast and some special zoo guests will also be making an appearance for the day. Our education team will be onsite with some of our team of little animals and you can even pose for a snap with Emer the lemur!

Come along between 12pm and 5pm to enjoy a fun-filled day packed with lots of global-themed activities, including:

  • multi-cultural arts and crafts workshops with ArtsEkta
  • Global Belfast-themed arts and crafts with Young at Art
  • live performances from the Willis Clan, Nashville, TN, who are launching the Nashville in Belfast week
  • live music and dance performances from local talent including the BEAT ‘n’ Drum Samba Band, Luminous Soul Dance Group, Youth Action, the Afrikan Warriors and the ArtsEkta Chinese Lion Dancers
  • information and display by Vespa World Days
  • spectacular street theatre shows and walkabout acts
  • learn a language through fun and interactive activities with Wee Love Languages
  • create amazing animations and visit the world of virtual reality on the Wheelworks Art Cart
  • travel to far off lands with tales and drama from around the world with the Story Trekkers from the Lyric Theatre (sessions times will be 12.15pm, 1pm, 1.45pm, 2.30pm, 3.15pm and 4pm approximately)
  • try some Laughter Yoga (session times will be at 1.50pm and 4pm) or Hula Hooping Wellbeing workshops (session times will be at 12.30pm and 3.30pm) with ArtsEkta
  • your little ones can enjoy sensory play discovery areas with Mini Explorers
  • join the Queen’s University International students in their global selfie booth and mark your country of origin on their interactive map
  • have a go on the Beat Carnival games stalls
  • take part in our music workshops
  • or have your face painted or get a henna tattoo.

All activities will run from 12 noon – 5pm, unless otherwise stated.

This is a free event and tickets are not required. Please read the full terms and conditions of entry. Queues for some activities may be closed earlier than the stated times.

This event is an outdoor event, so we do recommend that you pack the appropriate clothing to suit all weathers.
