Have you ever wondered what life behind the scenes at the zoo is really like or dreamed of walking in the wellie boots of a zoo keeper?
Belfast Live recently visited the zoo to film a day in the life of zoo curator, Raymond Robinson.
Raymond explains “Over the past 80 years Belfast Zoo has become a vital part of the heritage of Belfast and the local community. The zoo is a fantastic place to work and there are a variety of career paths within the field of animal care, welfare, conservation, education and visitor services. Working at the zoo is much more than just shovelling poo and spending time with the animals. The survival of many species is becoming increasingly dependent on the sustainability of zoo populations. I was delighted to take part in Belfast Live’s feature to give a bit of insight into my day to day role in providing first class animal care and the best visitor experience possible.”
Belfast Zoo are celebrating Love your Zoo week. The love your zoo campaign is promoted by the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA). The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to visit their local BIAZA zoos, to not only have a ZOOPER day out with the family, but also to learn just how much British and Irish zoos do for conservation, education and research.
Find out more about all of the ZOOPER fun that will be happening at Belfast Zoo on 2 to 3 June 2018.
