Our 'happy capys' have officially been named!

Date: 15 Jun 2018

Capybara babies

We would like to say a big thank you to Samantha Francey who helped us name our two newest little capybaras.

The names that have been chosen are Tula and Cuzco, both names highlight their South American heritage. Tula was a city during the Incan empire and Cuzco was the capitol of the Aztec empire!

Zoo curator, Raymond Robinson, said “We were delighted with the response to our capybara naming competition and received several hundred suggestions. We selected Samantha’s names as they referenced the South American home of this large rodent species. We would like to congratulate Samantha and look forward to welcoming her to Belfast Zoo over the next year as she enjoys her new family membership!

We would also like to thank all those who entered the competition.

Scurry down to Belfast Zoo soon to catch a glimpse of Tula and Cuzco!
