Belfast Zoo’s latest addition, the Rothschild’s giraffe calf, will be taking his first steps outside soon!
This exciting event will be a huge milestone in his life journey - the baby giraffe will be just over a week old on Friday (28 June). He has had his veterinary check-ups and zookeeper observations monitored over the past week, with great success. It is due to these successful check-ups and observations that we are pleased to announce that he will be able to take his first steps outside on Friday at 10.30am.
Zoo Manager, Alyn Cairns, said ‘‘Although still unnamed, our baby giraffe has become a huge hit online with thousands of people across Northern Ireland liking, sharing and commenting about the latest addition to our Belfast Zoo family! We are excited to be able to share our new born calf’s latest experience, his first steps outside, with everyone this Friday. We are giving you all the opportunity to witness the exciting event with us at 10.30am. Everyone will be able to purchase normal zoo admission tickets and come along to the occasion, it will be an amazing experience to witness! If you are unable to attend the event - don’t worry, our new calf will be outdoors all day Friday and over the weekend.’’
Belfast Zoo will be hosting the open event during normal zoo hours on Friday, 28 June. The Zoo opens to the public at 10am with the event taking place near the giraffe and elephant house outdoor space at 10.30am. This is an open event for the general public and everyone is welcome to come along. Normal zoo admission prices apply. Belfast Zoo tickets can be bought online.
