On Tuesday 3 August, we were delighted to welcome Minister for the Economy, Gordon Lyons to the zoo.
The Minister, who was touring several organisations with the 'Good to Go' industry standard, visited to see first-hand the health and safety measures that are in place to ensure that visitors, staff and the animals are kept safe during COVID-19.
The Good to Go scheme has been developed to ensure a common UK-wide industry standard to working within public health and government guidelines in relation to COVID-19. The accreditation is free and optional and reassures visitors that we are operating in accordance with national guidance including social distancing and cleanliness.
The Minister was given a guided tour of the zoo by Zoo Manager, Alyn Cairns and Ryan Black, Director of Neighbourhood Services at Belfast City Council.
Speaking after the meeting, Alyn Cairns said:
‘We welcomed this opportunity to show the Minister all of the health and safety measures that have been put in place since last year. We have worked very hard to ensure that the zoo is a safe space not only for visitors, but for our staff and the animals that we care for too. We were delighted to achieve Good to Go status and have enjoyed welcoming visitors back to the zoo since we reopened at the end of April. It has been a joy to see people back at our beautiful site at Cave Hill and we are proud to be able to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.”
