Photo Competition

Our Annual Photographic Competition, sponsored by HB, challenges budding and amateur photographers to take a picture of our animals during a visit to the zoo.

The competition has five categories. They are:

best photograph taken by a club photographer
best picture taken by a visitor
best black and white photograph
best picture taken by someone under 16
best funny caption

Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category at an awards ceremony in October 2010.

All entries must be received by 4pm on 24 September 2010, together with an entry form.

Prizes

The following prizes are available to the winners of each category:

Best photograph taken by a club photographer

first prize - £175, second prize - £150, third place - £95
maximum of three colourprints
colour prints should be sized between 8¨x 6¨ and 12¨x 10¨
prints should be mounted on 15¨x 12¨ black card
include a digital copy of your photographs.

Best picture taken by a visitor

first prize - £120, second prize - £100, third place - £70
maximum of three colour prints
colour prints should be sized between 5¨x 3.5¨and 6¨x 4¨
prints should be mounted on 7¨x 5¨ black card
include a digital copy of your photographs.

Best black and white photograph

first prize - £120, second prize - £100, third place - £70
open to all club photographers and zoo visitors
a maximum of three black and white prints
prints should be sized between 8¨x 6¨ and 12¨x 10¨
prints should be mounted on 15¨x 12¨ black card
include a digital copy of your photographs.

Best picture taken by someone under 16

first prize - family membership for the zoo
open to all visitors under the age of 16
a maximum of three colour prints
colour prints should be sized between 5¨x 3.5¨ and 6¨x 4¨
prints should be mounted on 7¨x 5¨ black card
include a digital copy of your photographs.

Best funny caption

open to everyone who enters the competition
maximum of three colour prints
colour prints should be sized between 5¨x 3.5¨ and 6¨x 4¨
prints should be mounted on 7¨x 5¨ black card
include a digital copy of your photographs.

Entry to the zoo for club photographers

Club photographers can get in free to the zoo on the following dates:

Saturday 15 May - 8am to 10am
Saturday 19 June - 8am to 10am
Saturday 10 July - 8am to 10am
Saturday 21 August - 8am to 10am
Friday 30 April - 6pm to 8pm
Friday 28 May - 6pm to 8pm
Friday 2 July - 6pm to 8pm
Friday 6 August - 6pm to 8pm
Friday 10 September - 6pm to 8pm.

To get in free, you must show a valid club membership card or a letter from your photographic club. You cannot enter the zoo without proof of membership.
