Old Zoo Tour

Old photograph showing Belfast Zoo27 March 2010

Celebrate the zoo’s 75th birthday by taking a special guided tour of the old zoo site.

The tour focuses on the Bellevue area, where the original zoo gardens were based in the 1920s and 1930s.

It explains how, after officials decided to set up a zoological collection on the site in 1933, work began to remodel the gardens.

Visitors can also find out how the zoo adapted to the changing face of Belfast, particularly during World War II when the Cave Hill area came under heavy attack.

The tour starts at 2pm and costs £12, including zoo admission. Tickets must be booked in advance.
