We are an accessible visitor attraction so visitors with wheelchairs and mobility requirements can relax and enjoy their day.
Belfast Zoo is located on a beautiful hilltop site on the northern edge of Belfast. We are situated on Cave Hill which dominates the local skyline and provides unrivalled views across Belfast Lough.
However, we recognise that the terrain of our site can be challenging for some of our visitors. Use the information and resources below to plan and enjoy your visit.
- free disabled parking spaces at the top end of our car parks*
- free entry for carers (terms and conditions apply)
- free wheelchair hire (subject to availability)
- zoo-mobile - an accessible buggy for travel around our site (subject to availability)
- accessible toilets
* Blue badges must be properly displayed on the vehicle dashboard with the side showing the wheelchair symbol facing forward.
Plan your route
The zoo is designed in a number of loops and walks to provide flatter areas after each uphill climb. The different walks range from flat to steep gradients throughout the 55 acre site.
To help you navigate the more challenging hill routes, we have created a free zoo map
which details each walk based on the level of difficulty. By following the map and with a little planning, you’ll be able to see the majority of the enclosures around the zoo.
The zoo-mobile is temporarily unavailable. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Manual wheelchairs are available at the zoo. Please call us on 028 9077 6277 to check availability and to reserve one. The wheelchairs are booked on a first come, first served basis and you will receive a confirmation email to state your booking is confirmed. You must bring this confirmation with you on the day of your visit.

Due to the steep hills on site, we can’t provide electric scooters. You are allowed to use your own electric scooter at your own risk and you must ensure that it is suitable for the terrain. You will need to sign a disclaimer at the zoo entrance and follow the recommended route.
